The older version turned out to be much faster
On the Throttle House YouTube channel they organized a drag race between the new Toyota Camry with a hybrid power plant and its predecessor in a more powerful TRD version with a naturally aspirated V6.
The main character was the new generation all-wheel drive Camry with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 232 hp. and a curb weight of 1655 kg. The hybrid sedan competed in acceleration with the Honda Accord Hybrid (204 hp, 1606 kg). The Camry was faster from a standing start and on the move, but in the second case the Accord seriously claimed victory.
But when the hybrid Camry was pitted against its TRD predecessor with a 3.5-liter V6 (301 hp) and a lighter weight of 1620 kg, the result was quite devastating. The naturally aspirated sedan confidently won both races – both from a standing start and on the move.
The authors of the video noted that the new Camry has dynamics acceptable for daily use. At the same time, it can boast of richer equipment compared to the old TRD version.
All new Camrys come only with hybrid 4-cylinder engines.
