Thieves cut charging cables at Tesla stations in the US: motive remains a mystery

Despite the presence of copper, they cost a little

Last week in the US, there were several thefts of high-voltage cables from Tesla charging stations, which occurred in many areas of Houston, as well as in Montrose County. This has made charging difficult for electric vehicle owners.

Instances of cable cutting at Supercharger stations have become more frequent, while the motives and identities of the perpetrators are still unclear. Some people speculate that the cables are stolen because of the copper wires. The idea came from Brandi Harlo, owner of South Post Oak Recycling Center, a metal recycling center in south Houston. However, calculations showed that 25 kg of cables from Tesla charging stations will bring only $30.

It should be noted that similar incidents have previously occurred in China and the UK.
