The variator does not have its own radiator, but during prolonged slipping it was not possible to overheat it
On the channel «Behind the Wheel» A large video dedicated to the Lada Vesta with a CVT has been released on YouTube. The resource's editor-in-chief, Maxim Kadakov, spoke in detail about the new transmission, showed it and shared his driving impressions.
The first thing worth noting: the Lada Vesta with a variator does not have a simple ABS system, but an expanded one: it supplies the variator with the necessary data (in particular, information about the pressure in the brake line and a signal about the vehicle speed are transmitted). The CVT transmission does not have its own radiator, and a Bosch belt is used inside (naturally, Chinese Bosch). It is interesting that the drive shafts (half shafts) of the CVT Vesta not interchangeable with «Vesta» shafts with manual transmission.
During driving tests, several features were found in the variator. So, the box reacts quite sharply to the first touch of the gas pedal (at the beginning of movement). Manual gear shift mode — with fool proof: unscrew the gear «to the clang» it won't work — The box itself will switch to the highest one. What does this give ? It expands the gear shift range a little more: that is, shifts occur at slightly higher speeds. But what’s interesting is that if the box switches to higher gears automatically itself, then it doesn’t switch to lower gears at all.
One more thing: the box «slows» when changing gears quickly. For example, when you need to quickly turn around in the yard, sequentially going through the «drive» modes. and «reverse», delays in switching will be clearly felt.
Attempts to overheat the variator by prolonged slipping in the snow were unsuccessful. «The tires already stink, but the variator does not overheat», — said Maxim Kadakov from behind the wheel. At the same time, there are two hypothetical situations when the variator can still overheat: active slipping (for example, on sand) in the heat in summer and long-term driving on the highway at top speed (which is about 180 km/h).
In case the variator (more precisely, the oil in it) approaches the temperature limit, a corresponding warning will appear on the dashboard. But it does not mean that the variator has already overheated, but only indicates the possibility of its overheating if driving conditions do not change.
At the end of the video, Maxim Kadakov touched on the topic of pricing. It is known that all Lada Vesta configurations with a CVT have increased in price by 75 thousand rubles. But the price increase could have been greater if there had not been very strong competition in the segment. And here the «Chinese», without suspecting it, did a good service.
