22 car models received the highest rating of Top Safety Pick+
We have already told you that the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recognized the Tesla Model Y 2024 as one of the safest cars. However, 21 more models received the same (highest) Top Safety Pick+ rating. According to IIHS tests, all of them provide the best (in their categories) protection for both occupants and pedestrians.
The complete list of the safest cars according to the IIHS looks like this:
Compact machines:
- Acura Integra;
- Mazda 3 hatchback;
- Mazda 3 sedan;
- Toyota Prius.
Mid-size cars:
- Honda Accord;
- Hyundai Ioniq 6.
Large luxury cars:
Genesis G80 (electric car).
Compact crossovers and SUVs:
- Genesis GV60;
- Honda HR-V;
- Hyundai Kona;
- Mazda CX-30;
- Mazda CX-50 (production after August 2023).
Mid-size crossovers and SUVs:
- Ford Explorer;
- Kia Telluride;
- Mazda CX-90;
- Nissan Pathfinder (production after November 2023);
- Subaru Ascent.
Mid-size luxury crossovers and SUVs:
- Acura MDX;
- BMW X3;
- Genesis GV80 (production after August 2023);
- Mercedes-Benz GLE (with optional forward collision avoidance system);
- Tesla Model Y.
Hyundai cars (brands Hyundai, Kia and Genesis) received 16 Top Safety Pick+ and Top Safety Pick awards, Toyota and Lexus received a total of 13 awards. Maximum number Top Safety Pick+ awards within one brand — at Mazda.
