The company is preparing to release HarmonyOS NEXT
Huawei made a statement regarding its HarmonyOS mobile operating system. The company said the number of native HarmonyOS apps has now reached 4,000.
Huawei is currently preparing to release HarmonyOS NEXT, an optimized version of HarmonyOS that focuses solely on the tailored features of HarmonyOS. Huawei's current version of HarmonyOS is designed to run on smartphones, integrating open-source Android libraries to support legacy apps. This means you can also use Android apps on Huawei smartphones. But with HarmonyOS NEXT, the company will completely abandon support for Android apps.
Four months ago, the company announced that more than 200 teams had begun working on HarmonyOS applications. The HarmonyOS app library currently covers categories such as lifestyle, travel, finance, social media, productivity, entertainment and gaming.
A fully native mobile operating system is expected to strengthen its position in China, where it aims to compete with Android's dominance.
HarmonyOS NEXT is currently available for testing by developers.
