Since 1997, Forester has been delivered to the USA from Japan

Subaru made a historic decision for itself to launch production of the Forester SUV in the USA: since 1997, when this model appeared, cars have been delivered to the North American market from Japan.

New Forester — Another nail in the coffin of the Legacy production program: this model is being discontinued at the Subaru of Indiana Automotive plant in Indiana, and the Forester will be produced instead of the Legacy.

Forester production in the USA will start with a version with a conventional 2.4-liter gasoline engine and a CVT, and a hybrid Subaru Forester with a power plant partially borrowed from Toyota will appear only in 2026 (although a hybrid version was already expected by the end of this year). In the same 2026, the Subaru Crosstrek should also receive a hybrid power plant.
