Matthew Karch believes that the public was too strict with the holding and is in a hurry to protect the former employer
One of the founders of Saber Interactive and the head of Beacon Interactive, Matthew Karch, does not understand all the anger and aggression of the public directed towards the Embracer Group holding, which, against the backdrop of a difficult economic climate, had to carry out a serious restructuring, which led to the dismissal of staff, the cancellation projects and the closure of studios.
Karch believes that the management of the holding and its CEO Lars Wingefors acted very prudently under the current circumstances, and layoffs were not only in the Embracer Group.
“In my opinion, no one was guided by a greater sense of justice and reasonableness than Lars. The process we had to go through to close the studios was absolutely… it was killing us.
I say “us”, although I am no longer part of the company, because I understand everything perfectly and sympathize… I still have shares in the holding, I still have close relationships and good friends there , and obviously I wish them success. I would like to say that Embracer tried harder than anyone else to save as many jobs as possible.”.
Embracer is in the process of restructuring Group laid off 1,400 employees and canceled 29 projects. The holding closed the studios Volition, Campfire Cabal and Free Radical Design, and also sold Gearbox and Saber Interactive.
