The first AMD processor has been released, the name of which violates AMD’s own CPU naming rules. This is the Ryzen 9 7940HX

According to the rules it should have been Ryzen 9 8940HX

AMD seems to have quietly released a new processor from the Dragon Range line.

The model is called Ryzen 9 7940HX. This is one of the flagships of mobile Ryzen. The processor is very similar to the top-end Ryzen 9 7945HX, but the maximum frequency of the new product is 200 MHz lower. Otherwise, these are the same 16 Zen 4 cores, iGPU Radeon 610M and TDP 55-75 W.

Вышел первый процессор AMD, название которого нарушает правила именования CPU самой AMD. Это Ryzen 9 7940HX

This processor itself is not particularly interesting due to its similarity to the Ryzen 9 7945HX, but there is a nuance. Let us remind you that AMD now has a processor naming scheme, according to which the first digit indicates the year of release. And 7 means 2023, and for 2024 the number 8 should already be used. That is, according to this scheme, despite the fact that the Ryzen 9 7940HX is almost identical to the Ryzen 9 7945HX, it should be called the Ryzen 9 8940HX. It is quite logical that AMD did not call the new product that way, as this would create unnecessary confusion, but still the company should remember about its own naming system.
