The EU restricts the activities of the three largest porn sites – Pornhub, XVideos and Stripchat

Very large services and platforms must begin to comply with the Digital Services Act by February 17, 2024

The second stage of «recruitment» so-called «very large online platforms» under the new Digital Services Act. This was announced by the European Commission in a press release today. 

In accordance with the law, the list of «very large online platforms» three largest porn sites have been added — Pornhub, XVideos and Stripchat. The Commission's investigation found that these sites «reach the threshold of 45 million monthly active users in the EU». 

Thus, Pornhub, XVideos and Stripchat joined the 19 platforms included in the list in the first stage on April 25, 2023. Then the list included:

1. AliExpress.
2. Amazon Store.
3. App Store.
4. Bing.
5. Booking.
6. Facebook*.
7. Google Maps.
8. Google Play.
9. Google Search/Google Search Corrigendum.
10. Google Shopping.
11. Instagram*.
12. LinkedIn.
13. Pinterest.
14. Snapchat.
15. TikTok.
16. Twitter (now already X).
17. Wikipedia.
18. YouTube.
19. Zalando.

All of these services and platforms must begin to comply with the requirements of the Digital Services Act by February 17, 2024. Among other requirements — assessing the risks and reducing the spread of illegal content, including child sexual abuse, pornographic deepfakes and non-consensual videos, as well as stricter control of the age of users.
