Shortly after the official announcement of the closure, Fntastic CEO Eduard Gotovtsev shared an internal message from the team's Discord channel.
He said that since the launch, The Day Before has sold about 109 thousand copies. Although actual sales reached 200 thousand copies, half of them were returned and were not included in Fntastic's final goal.
According to Gotovtsev, the game failed in all respects and turned out to be worse than the team’s previous release, Propnight. He also stated that developers must maintain Nitrado servers, a contract worth $1 million per year.
It is still unknown how Valve will act and whether the Fntastic developers will be able to benefit from this situation.
Interestingly, on the game’s page on Steam 21, 5 thousand user opinions. One method for approximate calculation of sales is about 40 copies per review. The situation with The Day Before is extraordinary, as users are much more willing to leave negative reviews. But there are doubts that 1 review accounts for 10 copies sold. It is possible that the sales situation is not the same as Gotovtsev claims.
After the closure of the studio, the game is no longer available for purchase on Steam and players will begin to receive refunds, and The Day Before will become known as one of the largest studio fraud cases in the industry.
