The crisis continues. Developers of strategy and shooter games that were supposed to be hits in 2023 are in big trouble

The gaming industry continues to experience a crisis leading to mass layoffs. Sega has announced another major layoff.

Sega announced the sale of Relic Entertainment as part of its cost-cutting policy. The publisher will also lay off up to 240 people from Sega Europe, Creative Assembly and Sega HARDlight.

Most of the layoffs are coming from the Creative Assembly and Sega Europe teams. This is probably the result of the failure of the online shooter Hyenas, which was almost ready, but at the last moment Sega decided that the game did not meet the quality requirements. It is worth recalling that the first wave of layoffs at Creative already took place in September 2023, shortly after the removal of Hyenas. But then Sega did not say how many people said goodbye to their positions.

As for sales of Relic, it is not yet known what will be done with the team that created Company of Heroes 3. The game received good reviews from reviewers, but was coldly received by fans of Company of Heroes 2 and seemed to sell poorly.
