In general the level is approximately the same
We have already seen tests of the new Intel Meteor Lake processors and can roughly imagine what the company came up with, although the first tests were very superficial. But now a review has appeared on the Internet, where the authors paid much more attention to the iGPU.
The processors were tested in different games of different genres and in two graphics quality modes: low and high (Full HD only). In addition, two new CPUs were tested at once: Core Ultra 7 155H and Ultra 5 125H. Let's remember that the first offers a full iGPU with 8 Xe cores, while the second has only 7 of them.
Let's start with the low graphics quality mode. There is not much difference between the two new Intel CPUs. More precisely, it is noticeable in LoL and Dota 2, but the absolute indicators in both games are still very high. Of the eight games, the Core Ultra 7 155H is a clear winner in two, and these are the same LoL and Dota 2, and in all the rest you can see approximate parity with the Ryzen 7 7840HS with a slight advantage in favor of one of the CPUs, depending on the game. That is, we can say that in general the Core Ultra 7 155H and Ryzen 7 7840HS offer a very similar level of performance.
When you switch to high graphics quality settings, the situation changes somewhat. For example, in Dota 2, the AMD processor is no longer so noticeably behind the new Intel products, but in Hitman 3 it begins to outpace them almost twice due to a catastrophic drop in performance on the Intel CPU. This may be fixed by updating the drivers.
Based on the results, we can say that the top iGPUs from Intel and AMD are now approximately the same. Eight games — This is not a particularly large sample, probably, somewhere the difference can be very large in one direction or another, but in general two conclusions can be drawn: firstly, Intel has done well, since it has greatly increased the performance of its integrated graphics core in comparison with the previous generation, and secondly, despite this, it only managed to reach the level of its competitor, but not reach a new one. All rumors that Meteor Lake iGPUs will be able to reach the level of the 35-watt RTX 3050 Laptop turned out to be unfounded.
The authors also examined the energy efficiency of new Intel CPUs. There is also no leader here: the Ryzen 7 7840HS performs much better at low TDP levels, and Intel's new products are slightly ahead at high TDP levels.
It’s worth saying separately that AMD has an advantage, since the energy-efficient Ryzen 7 7840U offers the same iGPU as the Ryzen 7 7840HS, and the difference will only be due to the power limit. But Intel's energy-efficient Meteor Lake-U has a graphics core cut in half, so the same Core Ultra 7 165U cannot even come close to its competitor. Moreover, the Core Ultra 7 165U also has only two large processor cores versus six in the Ultra 7 155H. Apparently, this is why we have not yet seen a single test of 15-watt new Intel
