«Effective» The refresh rate of Vizio TV screens has been confusing customers for years, and the company will pay $50 to customers who were misled by the term.
According to The Verge, this applies to models purchased after April 30, 2014. The company agreed to pay $3 million after a 2018 class action lawsuit alleged that its marketing «effective» 120Hz and 240Hz refresh rates were «false and misleading» (their actual frequency in most cases is 60 Hz). However, Vizio denies that it did anything illegal. Deadline for filing claims — March 30th of the following year and requires some form of proof of ownership of the TV, such as a receipt.
In addition to paying verified claims, Vizio «will cease its advertising practices» and «will provide extended services and a limited one-year warranty to all members of the settlement team», according to the website set up for filing claims.
The detailed notice states that the claims will apply to all televisions sold from April 30, 2014 until the final approval of the agreement, which is scheduled for hearing on June 20, 2024.
