She will receive AMD APU
Sony, it seems, has finally decided to create its new full-fledged portable game console. At least this is what a reliable insider from Moore's Law Is Dead channel says.
According to him, Sony has finally started developing a console, which is still tentatively called the PlayStation Vita 2, although it is unlikely to be called that, given the reputation of the original Vita.
Be that as it may, the project is at an early stage, so such a device will not be released in the near future, and in general there is a chance that it could be noted. However, given the growing popularity of handheld consoles and the success of the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck, it is possible that Sony will remain on track.
It is reported that the project now involves an AMD hybrid processor based on unknown architectures, but it is already known that an iGPU with 18 CU units, that is, 1152 stream processors, with a frequency of 1.8 GHz is planned. For comparison: the PS5 — 36 CU units, and the best current portable consoles based on Ryzen 7000 — 12 CU blocks. At the same time, Vita 2 will clearly be based on a graphics core not based on RDNA 3 architecture, but on RDNA 4 or RDNA 5, since the console will not be released now. Therefore, it makes no sense to somehow predict the level of productivity. But it is reported that the console will be able to run games from PS4, for which the performance is definitely enough, as well as games from PS5, but the latter will have to be adapted.
