GPU will handle scaling

According to the latest data, the Sony PlayStation 5 Pro game console will receive improved image scaling capabilities, thanks to which the company will promote the new product as a 4K/120fps console. New data suggests that upscale will be handled by the GPU.

Insider Kepler claims that the Viola APU, which will be at the heart of the PS5 Pro, does not have any dedicated NPU units that could handle such tasks. This means that the GPU will be responsible for scaling. True, the informant doubts that this will be AI scaling, like, for example, Nvidia DLSS.

The PS5 Pro is expected to release later this year. Various sources say that a number of studios have already received development kits.

The Kepler insider has repeatedly shared detailed information about the characteristics of future AMD CPUs and GPUs, in particular platforms for game consoles. He also revealed the features of the PS5 Slim.
