Sony found an interesting way to attract attention at CES 2024 .
The company has been working on the Afeela electric concept car in partnership with Honda for several years, and has now revealed its latest iteration, bringing it to the stage using the PlayStation DualSense controller. The demonstration turned out to be bright, but it hardly reflected Sony’s real attempts to replace the steering wheel in a car with a joystick. The latest news about Afeela is that the car will appear in Gran Turismo 7 after the update and will hit the real market in 2026.
Electrec previously reported that the concept Afeela will have dual all-wheel drive with 400 kW (536 hp), 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 240 km/h. Prices and battery details have also not yet been announced.
Sony also demonstrated a new “spatial content creation” system, developed in partnership with Siemens, that will help users edit and create 3D models with a virtual reality headset. According to the company's CEO Kenchirio Yoshida, the headset runs on the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform, is equipped with 4K OLED displays and two controllers – in the form of a regular VR joystick and ring.

The front part of the headset can rotate, thereby “moving” the owner between virtual and physical space. The new system will be released later in 2024, but pricing details have not yet been disclosed. In the future, the headset will compete with Apple Vision Pro, which will appear in stores for sale on February 2.
