There will be fewer exclusives?
It seems that not only Microsoft is going to seriously reconsider its approach to console exclusives. The new head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Hiroki Totoki, who replaced Jim Ryan in this post, clearly hinted that Sony could begin to be much more active in releasing its games on other platforms.
Previously, we wanted to popularize the console, and the main goal of our games was to make the PlayStation console popular. But if you have strong native content not only for your console but also for other platforms such as PC, the native content can be further distributed through multi-platform and can help improve your operating margin. This is another issue that we want to actively work on.
Personally, I believe there is room for margin improvement, so I would like to actively work to improve our margin performance
Totoki spoke about this for a reason. The reason for this statement is clearly visible in something else that is not directly related to games
Four months have passed since I became the chairman of SIE. The big problem I've found with SIEs is that they don't necessarily have a deep understanding of how their work results in growth, sustainable profits, and higher profits for the division as a whole
Sony has already sold almost 55 million PlayStation 5
That is, according to the new head of SIE, this division is not working efficiently enough, and Totoki wants it to bring more profit. And one of the options for its extension — more active release of games from Sony's internal studios on other platforms. At least that's what Totoki thinks.
If you consider that Sony has been very actively getting rid of exclusives over the past few years, sometimes releasing them on PC literally a year after release, the time frame will probably decrease even more, and some games will quite possibly be released on PC at the same time as the release on PlayStation.
