Collaboration with Breathe Battery Technologies Announced
Volvo Cars has announced it is investing in UK startup Breathe Battery Technologies and will use the company's software to manage charging in next-generation electric vehicles, claiming it can cut charging times by 30%. A new generation of Volvo electric vehicles equipped with Breathe technology will be available in the next two to three years.
Volvo is integrating Breathe's charge management software into its own battery management platform. Volvo expects that charging time from 10% to 80% will be a third faster than before, and that this increase in speed will be maintained throughout the battery's life cycle without affecting its condition.
Breathe charging management software uses adaptive charging technology to control the charging process based on battery condition, using algorithms to dynamically manage the battery in real time, thereby reducing charging time while avoiding battery damage.
Volvo said that because the charging management software is fully compatible with the hardware used in the new generation of electric vehicles, it can be easily scaled and could help Volvo become a full-electric vehicle manufacturer by 2030.
Breathe Battery Technologies is also the supplier of Oppo Longevity Edition Super Flash Charge software, which helps Oppo Reno8 and other mobile phones withstand 1600 charge cycles.
