Forester is in demand
Subaru sold just 1,673 Subaru WRXs in May, down 39.6% from a year earlier, with that model launching in 2022 and the redesigned WRX TR following in October 2023. At the same time, 1,546 Solterras were sold in May, which is 254.6% more than in May 2023.
The Subaru WRX is powered by a 271-hp turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT. Manual transmission is available in all trim levels except GT.
Subaru BRZ sales also fell. With just 227 units sold in May, sales are down 45% this year. Forester sales increased 61.4%. It's the best-selling model in the Subaru lineup and a reminder that SUVs are in top demand.
Presumably, Subaru WRX buyers are put off by the price. After all, the starting price of $33,855 does not allow you to get the upgraded suspension and brakes that are included in the $42,775 WRX TR.
