More than Tesla and Geely: Chery sold almost 1.9 million cars in a year, leading the export of Chinese cars for 21 years in a row

Chery announced in its public report this evening that it sold 215,690 vehicles in December 2023, with sales increasing for 12 consecutive months.

Cumulative sales for 2023 were 1,881,316 vehicles. Year-on-year growth was 52.6%, and officials said annual sales reached a historically high level.

At the same time, Chery announced that its annual revenue exceeded 300 billion yuan (over $42 billion) for the first time, an increase of more than 50% year on year. The company claims to be the number one exporter of Chinese passenger cars for 21 consecutive years.

In addition, according to official data, as of the end of 2023, Chery has more than 13 million car users worldwide, including 3.35 million users abroad.

It was previously reported that China has surpassed the United States, Japan and Germany to become the world's largest automobile exporter. Last year, the country shipped 4.76 million cars.

Chery's rival Geely reported total sales for the full year 2023 of 1,686,516 units, up about 18% from the previous calendar year. Tesla, we recall, sold about 1.8 million cars.
