Qualcomm yesterday introduced the Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus platforms for laptops with Arm. And at the same time she shared the test results, which turned out to be quite impressive. However, it seems that Qualcomm was cheating and in fact we will not see such indicators.
The SemiAccurate resource claims that there are several sources at once, two of which — OEMs claim that laptop makers are unable to achieve the same high levels of performance that Qualcomm has demonstrated. The results from different sources are somewhat different, but in the worst case, we are talking about the fact that manufacturers are able to achieve less than 50% of the indicators that Qualcomm demonstrated in technical documentation and at the presentation! That is, real productivity is sometimes more than half as low. Some sources in describing the situation compared Qualcomm chips with Intel Celeron, which is significant in itself.
The source contacted Qualcomm engineers, to which they responded that the problem probably lies in insufficient cooling and incorrect builds of Windows for Arm.
It is also important to say that one of the sources of SemiAccurate — a certain Qualcomm employee. And he confirmed that the company's own test results are inflated, and the company is well aware of this.
Why Qualcomm would start such a game is not very clear, because laptops will hit the market in June, and everything will become clear to everyone. We can only hope that the problem is still exaggerated, otherwise Windows on Arm risks remaining something on the margins of the market.
