Yandex reported 50 million prevented suspicious login attempts to more than 20 million of its accounts in 2023. Accounts were protected thanks to the introduction of new security tools and the active development of two-factor authentication. «Yandex ID» updated algorithms that counteract various types of attacks.

For example, there are protection algorithms in case attackers have infected the user’s device and stolen cookies, as well as algorithms that can accurately recognize automatically created accounts to protect against bots. The service also began notifying users with inactive accounts — after 2.5 years of inactivity, such profiles can be deleted. It is inactive accounts that are often protected by old passwords and are the most vulnerable, as noted by Yandex.

The process of restoring access to your account has also been updated: for example, it’s now possible to set up account restoration only when you provide a photo with a passport. Two-factor authentication also helps to further enhance profile protection; it is now enabled for 15 million Yandex ID — users. 20% more than at the beginning of 2023. Also, over the year, the active monthly audience of the authentication application «Yandex Key» has doubled.
