Huang does not rule out that GPUs will be replaced with something else

Nvidia very quickly and quite unexpectedly climbed to the top of the Olympus of artificial intelligence computing. This is all thanks to the fact that, as it turns out, GPUs are excellent for such calculations. However, Nvidia does not believe that GPUs have any alternatives.

The head of Nvidia spoke with the audience on various topics at the CASPA event. Among other things, he was asked whether GPUs will continue to dominate the industry in the coming years. Huang did not answer the question directly, but made it clear that alternatives may exist.

There are always good ideas — in fact, if there is a good idea, we will move on to it. You know, we're not stubborn. Our life goal is not to create CUDA GPUs.

Also, the head of Nvidia added that his company’s mission in the market has changed.

As you know, the letter G in GPU originally stood for graphics. Today we do much more than just graphics. We have changed the mission. I just never changed the name.

Our life goal — solve computer problems that ordinary computers cannot handle. We call it a GPU, but it does very different things. We change all the time. So if you have a good idea, let me know about it.
