The company is involved in a scandal with fake crash tests

Car company Daihatsu (a subsidiary of Toyota, which specializes in the production of small cars) will suspend operations at all four of its factories in Japan over the next week. As we already wrote, Daihatsu was involved in a scandal involving falsification of crash test data and other violations related to the safety of vehicle operation. These tests were carried out to obtain state certification of manufactured vehicles.

Previously it was reported that representatives of the Ministry of Public Lands, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan came to the company's office with a search, and it was also announced that supplies of dozens of Toyota and Daihatsu models were suspended. And now it has become known that, in addition to stopping the supply of cars, it was decided to suspend the work of Daihatsu factories. It is not yet clear when factories will start operating again, but it is already clear that plant downtime could have a negative impact on automotive component suppliers and customers.

The fact that Daihatsu falsified the results of crash tests of several models, including cars under the Toyota brand, became known this spring. An independent commission convened to investigate the incident found a further 174 violations in 25 test categories affecting 64 Daihatsu models, 22 of which are sold under the Toyota brand. As a result, deliveries of all these vehicles were suspended both in Japan and abroad.
