These are two Gaudi models 3
Intel recently presented its Gaudi 3 line of AI accelerators. It turned out that there are two models for the Chinese market.
The Gaudi 3 HL-328 and HL-388 versions are designed specifically for the Chinese market. More precisely, they are configured in accordance with the sanctions. There is no exact data on how they differ, but it is known that their TDP is half that of top global models: 450 W versus 900 W. At the same time, the amount of memory and its bandwidth have not changed.
However, the halved TDP clearly indicates very serious differences between Chinese adapters and global ones. They probably relate to both the number of computing units and frequencies. One way or another, Intel needed to reduce productivity by any means to a level that does not fall under the latest US sanctions.
For now, it appears that the main focus of US regulators is on Nvidia, but perhaps some adjustments may be made in the case of Intel that will force the company to further limit the performance of its Chinese accelerators.
