Now you should be afraid of the 12V2x6/12VHPWR connector on the GeForce RTX 4080 Super? One of the test media video cards came with a low-quality cable

It doesn’t snap fully into place

GeForce RTX 4080 Super has only just entered the market, and at least one case has already been recorded related to the problematic 12V2x6 port, which is an improved version of 12VHPWR.

The author of the Igor's Lab portal encountered a problem. In his case, it seems that it was not in the connector on the video card itself, but in the included cable — it simply couldn’t be connected all the way, as it should be done to reduce the risk of melting.

It is unclear how widespread the problem will be in this case, however, given that the situation occurred with the test video card even before the start of sales, it hints that you still need to treat the connector more carefully even on the latest 3D cards .

Our colleagues have identified the root cause of the problem: the PCI-SIG specifications for the 12V2x6 connector do not indicate the exact dimensions of the connector itself. PCI-SIG only defines length, width and height. Because of this, cable manufacturers can create products that are minimal but still fall short of the right dimensions.
