New software is being prepared for 20-year-old ATI Radeon video cards. This will be the open source Mesa Gallium3D driver

It is suitable for ATI cards of the Radeon R300, R400 and R500 lines

Almost any old video card with PCIe can be used in a modern PC without problems, but support for such adapters has long been discontinued. It turned out that new software will be released in the near future for ATI models of the Radeon R300, R400 and R500 series. True, unofficially.

New software will be released soon as part of the open source Mesa Gallium3D OpenGL package. This is software for Linux, so Windows users will not get it.

In this case we are talking about support for very old video cards. R300 line — these are not models like the Radeon R9 380 at all. This is the code name of the line, which included models such as the Radeon 9600 and 9700. And even the R500 line — These are old Radeon X1000 cards. That is, we are talking about support for video cards, some of which were released more than 20 years ago.

It’s hard to say who and why are still using such 3D cards, many of which existed only with an AGP interface, but since work is underway, it means someone needs it.
