This is all due to significantly increased prices for small cars
If in 2022 there was a boom in new small cars in Russia, now, just two years later, the supply of such cars has decreased by 89%, and the number of available models has decreased by 58.5%. Izvestia writes about this. with reference to analysts «Auto.ru Business».
The erosion of the small car segment is due to a number of factors: the departure of global automakers from Russia in the absence of an adequate alternative from Chinese companies, rising prices.
To understand the situation: in February 2024, the market leader in new listings in the small car segment was the Kia Picanto for 2.27 million rubles. For the same money you can buy a Geely Emgrand with an automatic transmission. The small Kia Stonic is cheaper (1.68 million rubles), and, for example, the compact crossover Toyota Raize costs 2.65 million rubles.
Interestingly, the situation in the secondary market is the opposite: since 2022, the supply of small cars has tripled. The leader here is Daewoo Matiz for 259 thousand rubles. In second and third places are Toyota Vitz and Toyota Passo (1.09 million rubles each).
