They turned out to be more expensive than last year's cars

The new W214 generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class debuted last spring and finally went to US dealerships. Mercedes-Benz has announced prices for the new E350 and E450 sedans, and they don't come cheap. The base E350 4Matic in Premium trim costs $63,450, while the E450 4Matic in Pinnacle trim rises to $71,800. Overall, it is slightly more expensive than its closest competitors.

The E350 is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, while the E450 — 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine producing 375 hp. and 369 Nm of torque. Mercedes has streamlined its trim offerings in recent years, including a host of features in the base Premium trim.

The Pinnacle trim adds additional options such as an illuminated grille and «active ambient lighting with sound imaging». All E-Class models now also come standard with all-wheel drive.

For comparison, the base Audi A6 Quattro costs $58,395, and the new BMW 530i xDrive — $61,195. The rear-wheel drive 530i is still cheaper at $58,895. Without the Mercedes' full specs, it's hard to compare them to each other, so arguably, while similarly equipped, the Audi and BMW are roughly equivalent, if not more expensive. It's a similar story with the six-cylinder versions of these midsize luxury sedans.

It's worth noting that the new 2024 E-Class is more expensive than the 2023 model. The E350 4Matic starts at $60,400, while the E450 4Matic — from $66,700. But the new E-Class comes with plenty of technology, including an optional selfie camera.
