Larian's lead writer wants Baldur's Gate 4 to be driven by passion rather than financial gain

If there is a next Baldur's Gate, it won't be from Larian Studios. There are fears that a new game in the franchise could become a purely commercial product

The full version of Baldur's Gate 3 has captured the hearts of many players, but Larian Studios is moving on and will be working with other intellectual property. The next project in the franchise will be made by other people, which raises some concerns among the gaming community.

Larian lead writer Adam Smith spoke with GamesRadar+ on Digital Dragons – he said , that he doesn't care what direction Baldur's Gate 4 goes in, he just wants the developers to make the game out of passion (love for the franchise) and not for financial gain.

“I don’t want to [come across as rude]. I'd just like to see someone make a game because they wanted to make it, not because someone said, “[Let's make a game, we'll get a big boost] to our revenue next quarter.”

In Smith's opinion, there are many more stories that can be told, but it is important to ensure that the developers end up with a Baldur's Gate, and not just some game in the Forgotten Realms universe (so that every element game justified this name).
