It's like food stamps, but with artificial intelligence. Chinese authorities are giving startups computing vouchers worth up to $280,000

They can be spent on renting power for AI

China has decided to fight US sanctions regarding the supply of accelerators for AI in a rather unique way. More precisely, to help young companies fight this. Authorities in various Chinese cities have reportedly launched a program under which they will essentially issue AI vouchers to startups.

Young teams that need more computing power to work with artificial intelligence will be given so-called computing vouchers. In fact, this is funding that will be allocated by city authorities for startups to rent computing power in large data centers. We are talking about amounts from 140 to 280 thousand dollars. You can spend them in large Chinese companies, in particular Alibaba, Tencent or ByteDance.

Of course, this does not solve the problem of supplying AI accelerators to China, but it will allow young companies to bypass it and have the opportunity to develop at the initial stage.
