The Canadian government introduced «Volga-Dnepr» to the sanctions list in April, while in February 2022, Canadian authorities illegally detained the company's An-124, and in June 2023, it became known about the country's government's intention to confiscate the aircraft and transfer it to Ukraine.
Airplane «Volga-Dnepr» was carrying humanitarian cargo at the request of the Canadian government in February last year, on board was a cargo of COVID-19 tests from China. After landing at Toronto Airport and unloading, he was prohibited from leaving Canadian airspace.
In August «Volga-Dnepr» proposed that the Canadian authorities peacefully resolve the situation around the illegally seized An-124 aircraft. Then it was reported that if the dispute was not peacefully resolved in six months, then the «Volga-Dnepr» formally initiates arbitration proceedings.
