«Technosphere» publishes details about the future Russian aircraft Il-212.

Due to the special requirements for its operation (the machine must take off and land on unpaved and unprepared runways, including in extreme Arctic conditions), the engines will not be located under the wing, like the Il-112V (Il-112V). 212 should just replace the Il-112V, which never became serial), and above – on the fender to prevent dirt and sand from getting into the engine. This, in turn, will lead to the creation of a completely new aircraft, which to some extent will be similar to the transport An-74, produced in a small series in the 1990s.

Another point is related to the carrying capacity, which is important since we are talking about a transport aircraft. Replacing TV7-117ST turboprop engines with higher-torque PD-8 turbofan engines will lead to a significant increase in payload capacity: if the Il-112V could barely lift the planned 5 tons, then the Il-212 will be capable of transporting at least 10-12 tons of cargo.
