The processor turned out to be very popular

Half a century ago, Intel introduced the Intel 8080 processor.

On April 12, 1974, Electronics magazine published an actual announcing article by Masatoshi Shima and Federico Faggin about the company's new CPU.

The new processor contained about 4500 transistors and was produced using 6-micron NMOS technology. Thanks to significant improvements compared to the Intel 8008, the new product turned out to be very popular. In particular, the Altair-8800 microcomputer was released based on the Intel 8080, and then the IMSAI 8080. The initial version of the Intel 8080 operated at a frequency of only 2 MHz, although higher frequency versions appeared later.

In the USSR in 1977, an actual clone of the Intel processor called KR580VM80A was released.
