Previously, Micron announced the purchase of the entire amount of HBM memory until the end of 2025, but the market share of SK Hynix is 10 times larger
SK Hynix, through the mouth of its CEO, announced that all HBM memory volumes that will be released in 2024 have already been sold out. Moreover, most of the HBM volume that will be produced in 2025 has also been sold out. Previously, Micron made a similar statement, but only Micron has a market share of HBM memory of 4–6%, and SK Hynix— 46–49% (according to TrendForce data).
Based on statements from SK Hynix and Micron, more than half of the industry's global supply of HBM3 and HBM3E for the coming quarters has already been sold out. Samsung — the only remaining manufacturers HBM — I haven’t yet talked about the volumes of deliveries and orders of HBM for the near future, but there is a possibility that everything has been purchased from the Korean company for the coming quarters.
SK Hynix is the largest supplier of HBM memory for Nvidia, whose accelerators — Nvidia H100 and H200 — are in great demand amid the growth of the AI market. But it's not just Nvidia that needs HBM: Amazon, AMD, Facebook, Google (Broadcom), Intel and Microsoft are also ramping up production of their latest AI processors, and they too need high-bandwidth memory.
Previously, SK Hynix announced the development of a 300 TB SSD. And here, too, everything is connected with the development of the market for artificial intelligence solutions.
