The first batch of 28 trains will be ready by 2028
Trains on the high-speed railway between Moscow and St. Petersburg will run every 10 –15 minutes, as announced by Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev.
At a meeting with the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the construction of high-speed lines Moscow — The St. Petersburg minister said that the creation of the high-speed railway will reduce travel time: «We will soon reduce the travel time between Moscow and St. Petersburg by almost half from 4 hours to 2 hours 15 minutes. And between Moscow and Tver the travel time will be only 39 minutes. And St. Petersburg and Veliky Novgorod will take citizens only 29 minutes».
The project targets provide for an increase in high-speed passenger traffic between the two capitals from about 5 million passengers to 23 million by 2030. The first batch of trains for the Moscow High-Speed Line — St. Petersburg will have 28 units, its purchase will require 148 billion rubles.
The first batch will be delivered by 2028. To do this, already in 2026 it is necessary to create a prototype train and begin certification tests.
«We envisage the creation of a completely domestic train based on the production facilities of leading Russian transport engineering companies: this is the „Sinara“ and Transmashholding», — added Savelyev.
Russian Railways has been designing the train on behalf of the President since 2020. It will be equipped with a digital control system based on artificial intelligence, will be able to reach speeds of up to 400 km/h and will be modified to transport high-value and special cargo, as well as have the ability to change the layout of the train interior. The train's passenger capacity will be about 460 people.
Construction of the High-Speed Rail System Moscow — St. Petersburg will need to be financed from the budget by almost 610 billion rubles.
