The Entertainment Software Association announced it had abandoned efforts to revive the event.
On December 12, it was reported that the Entertainment Software Association had given up its futile attempts to revive gaming public and corporate interest in the Electronic Entertainment Expo, announcing that it would never host the event again.
While most players felt that things had come to their logical conclusion given the shape E3 has taken in recent years, many developers were imbued with a warm sense of nostalgia for a bygone era.
“The end of E3 is very sad news. The presentation of “MGS2″ in 2000 holds a special place in my memory. I will never forget the applause I received then. Without E3, Japanese developers and projects would not have gained worldwide fame. E3 brought together developers and gaming leaders, regardless of borders and races.”, notes Hideo Kojima.
“I was there during the gameplay demo of the very first God of War many years ago, and saw how excited people were to play this strange game about an evil guy with chains”,” recalls Cory Barlog, head of development for God of War (2018).
