Google has the right to confiscate your smartphone without compensation? For almost a year, there was a clause in the company's policy that explicitly said this

Now the company has announced that it will change the rules

Apple is often criticized for various nuances regarding its repair policy, but Google seems to have decided to outdo everyone at once. The company's service and repair program terms and conditions page states that Google may confiscate your Pixel smartphone. And not just a smartphone.

The company makes it clear that if a user sends a Pixel smartphone to a Google service center that has previously been repaired using unofficial components, this smartphone will simply not be returned to the user.

Unauthorized parts. Do not submit a device containing parts not approved by Google. Otherwise, your device will not be returned to you

How legal this is is unclear, but it is likely not legal. This item appeared at Google last summer, but overall went unnoticed. However, now that there has been a stir in the media, Google quickly came to its senses and announced that it would not keep devices with non-original spare parts.

If a customer sends their Pixel to Google for repair, we will not abandon it regardless of whether it has non-original parts or not. In certain situations, we may not be able to complete repairs due to safety issues. In this case, we will either send it back to the client or work with them to determine next steps. Customers are also free to choose the renovation options that suit them best. We are updating our Terms of Use to make this clear

Google made this statement a day ago, but so far there are no changes on the site.
