They want to forget about the Mustang Mach-E?
Ford has said it will never produce a Mustang that isn't a “Mustang”.
Ford CEO Jim Farley spoke about the company's plans for the iconic ponycar in an interview with Autocar. He started by making the Mustang the best-selling coupe in the world. Therefore, Ford will continue to produce such cars, preserving their spirit, and some new variants can only be released if they have the «characteristics and approach» existing models.
We will never build a Mustang that isn't a «Mustang». For example, there will never be room for a small two-row Ford SUV with a Mustang badge slapped on it. But can we make a Mustang with a different body shape – four door or some other? I believe we could if these models retained all the features and character of the original.
Farley also noted that future Mustangs could be equipped with hybrid powertrains, but the head of Ford promised that the company would never release a fully electric Mustang. The latter promise, of course, looks quite funny, given the existence of the Mustang Mach-E — an electric car and also a crossover.
