Elon Musk's Neuralink received permission for a second operation, despite problems with the first patient

The operation is planned for June

Elon Musk's Neuralink received FDA approval to implant its chip into a second patient.

The operation is scheduled for June, and by the end of this year Neuralink expects to carry out 10 such operations. In total, the company’s database already has more than 1,000 registered applicants. The company also intends to submit applications to regulators in Canada and the UK in the next few months to begin similar trials.

Recall that it recently became known that Neuralink had been aware for several years of problems with contacts in the implant that it implanted into the brain of a 29-year-old paralyzed patient earlier this year. In this patient, the problem also manifested itself: several of the thinnest threads-contacts with which the chip is connected to the human brain became disconnected. Whether the problem will be solved by the second operation or at any time this year is unknown.
