But now many countries and regions are planning to limit the supply of Chinese cars
Resource «Kommersant» reports that China is actively increasing car exports, and the main market is Russia. Today, Chinese cars already occupy more than half of the new car market in the Russian Federation.
Last year, China became the largest exporter of cars, overtaking Japan. In the first quarter of this year, exports increased by another 34.8%, to 1.54 million cars.
The European Association of Car Carriers, based on CAAM data, estimated that 112,000 new cars were shipped to Russia from China in January-February. By comparison, Mexico, which is the second largest destination for Chinese auto exports, accounted for 66,000 vehicles. However, Russian data is slightly different. According to Autostat, during the same period, 88,800 new passenger cars were imported from China. At the end of the first quarter, Chinese car imports reached the level of 141 thousand units, and the country accounted for 66.4% of the total import of new cars into the Russian Federation. In April, another 54.3 thousand new cars from China arrived on the Russian market, but the country’s share in total imports in the car market increased sharply — up to 94%. This is due to changes in the rules for importing cars into Russia from EAEU countries from April 1, which greatly reduced the attractiveness of customs clearance of cars, for example, in Kyrgyzstan.
However, for China, everything may not be so rosy in the very near future: the United States is introducing its own protective measures, and in Russia they are adjusting regulations, which may also negatively affect the supply of cars from China.
