Toyota GR Corolla became the leader
Toyota GR Corolla has become a bestseller, as stated by the manufacturer. In its first full year of sales in the United States, Toyota sold 5,567 units of the all-wheel drive hot hatch.
That's a fraction of Corolla's 232,370 sales last year, but the GR Corolla easily outsold its closest rival, the Volkswagen Golf R, by more than 2,000 units. It also outsold every other manual Toyota on the market.
Toyota originally said it planned to produce 6,500 GR Corollas in the U.S. market for the 2023 model year, but fell short due to a supply chain issue rather than low demand.
According to data provided by Toyota to Motor1, the GR Corolla was Toyota's most popular manual transmission model in the United States, ahead of the GR86, which sold 5,317 units. Additionally, Toyota sold 3,287 manual Tacomas and 1,140 manual Supras.
Although on paper the Golf R, an all-wheel drive hatchback with around 300 hp, is the GR Corolla's closest competitor, the Toyota is often compared to the Honda Civic Type R.
