The country is investing billions in its own production

The United States banned the supply of uranium from Russia to the United States. The corresponding law was signed by US President Joe Biden.

A statement released by the White House press office said the law «prohibits the import of non-irradiated, low-enriched uranium produced in the Russian Federation or by a Russian company».

Assistant to the American President for National Security Jake Sullivan said that this will allow the United States to eliminate dependence on the Russian Federation in the field of peaceful nuclear energy.

The signed law will strengthen the country’s energy and economic security by reducing, and ultimately eliminating, dependence on Russia in the field of peaceful nuclear energy. This would restore America's leadership in nuclear energy, and would also supposedly secure the country's energy sector for generations to come.

A bill banning the import of enriched uranium from Russia was approved by the US Senate on April 30. But in exceptional cases, purchases are allowed until January 2028.

Previously it became known that the USA produced the first 90 kg of enriched uranium. By the end of the year, the United States expects to enrich about a ton of fuel for American nuclear reactors.
