The share of “handicraft” desktop computers almost doubled last year

According to «Izvestia» with reference to a report from a partner company of several electronics manufacturers, in Russia for the first time since the late 1990s, the demand for desktop computers assembled by hand in electronics stores and small workshops has increased. Thus, in 2023, 20% of desktop PCs sold in Russia did not belong to any brand, but were assembled directly in a store or on the radio market according to customer requirements and often — from the spare parts he brought. For comparison, in 2022 such devices occupied only 11% of the market. Sales of computers of this type over the year have more than doubled — up to approximately 260 thousand pieces, noted the authors of the document and confirmed to the publication an informed source.

Experts believe that the demand for home-made computers has jumped after large global manufacturers left Russia. In addition, such devices cost about 10% less than products from well-known brands, and you can also order a model that fully meets both the customer’s needs and his budget. Another reason for the increase in requests for assembling a PC instead of buying a ready-made — This is the development of gaming in Russia, analysts say.
