True, not in 2024
Yesterday at the final press conference, AvtoVAZ President Maxim Sokolov told a lot of interesting things. In particular, he said that Niva Sport will appear by the end of this year. But he also announced the expected update of the regular Niva.
In fact, Maxim Sokolov confirmed what insiders said earlier: the SUV will receive a new 1.8-liter engine instead of the current (or one might say ancient) 1.7-liter. But such a machine will appear only in 2025.
It is far from a fact that this will be the 122-horsepower 1.8 EVO engine presented in December 2023 – such an engine will be installed on Lada Vesta and – in the future – on Lada Granta. It is unlikely that AvtoVAZ will have the capacity to produce the same engine for the Niva. In addition, 122 hp. for the regular civilian version of the «three-door» – this is redundant.
