A laptop without a screen may seem like a very strange idea, but the Spacetop G1 is exactly that. This is a laptop — at least the manufacturer himself calls it that way — and it has no display at all.
But, of course, there is something here instead of a display. And these are augmented reality glasses. The company itself calls its brainchild a laptop of the era of spatial computing. It was shown last year, but all this time the device was not available to everyone, but now it has finally come out. And even in an improved form.
So, technically, we have AR glasses with a docking station in the form of the bottom of a laptop. This is where the entire computing part, battery, ports, as well as the keyboard and touchpad are located. There is practically nothing in the glasses themselves except screens, so they are very light and compact. True, they don’t have a battery either, so they are connected to the docking station with a cable.
The glasses have two built-in OLED screens with a Full HD resolution each, a frame rate of 90 Hz and a viewing angle of 50 degrees. The glasses can form a virtual 100-inch screen.
The heart of the device is the Snapdragon QCS8550. This is a platform similar to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and it is much better than the Snapdragon 865, which was originally planned to be installed in the laptop. There is also 16 GB of RAM, a 128 GB SSD, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, a slot for a SIM card. The battery should last for 8 hours of work, which is not particularly impressive. Everything runs on an operating system based on ChromiumOS.
The device costs $ 1,900, which may be its main drawback, since you can buy a lot of things for this money.
