Ubisoft hastened to clarify: players will only need to connect to the company's servers once – even owners of physical versions
Ubisoft says that Assassin's Creed Shadows will only require a one-time connection to the network during installation, after which players will be free to run around feudal Japan without the Internet.
It is worth noting that owners of the physical edition of Shadows will also have to connect to the network during the game installation process. Players who purchased Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora faced similar requirements at one time, as well as those who purchased Star Wars Outlaws.
Assassin's Creed Shadows will be released on November 15th Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
