Not the current Outlander, but the new one

The Japanese resource BestCarWeb has published details about the future of the Mitsubishi Pajero. Alas, it will lose the entire set of off-road capabilities that the current Pajero has: the new generation car will lose its frame and receive a monocoque body.

In principle, this is not surprising, since many manufacturers have already followed the same path, this applies to both Land Rover and Toyota. Specifically, Mitsubishi explains the change in the off-road paradigm by the fact that the frame model does not meet the driving comfort standards of the next generation Pajero, which should become the «Japanese Range Rover». In other words, Pajero will turn from a brutal SUV into a luxury off-road crossover.

The future Pajero will be built on the CMF-C/D platform, or more precisely, its electrified version called CMF-EV. Such a platform is already in development; its commercialization (that is, production of serial models) will begin in 2025. Probably, the first model on the CMF-EV will be the new generation Outlander PHEV, and only then the new Pajero will be released.

What engines the new generation Pajero will get is unknown, but it is possible that it will get a hybrid power plant from the new Outlander PHEV based on a 2.4-liter engine. And, of course, Pajero will receive a proprietary all-wheel drive system S-AWC (Super All Wheel Conrol).
