It's time to retire the almost 30-year-old 24-pin power connector? MSI is preparing motherboards with an ATX12VO connector

by alex

It was introduced back in 2020

MSI is going to release a couple of new motherboards equipped with the new ATX12VO power connector.

We are talking about the Pro H610M 12VO and Pro B650 12VO models. That is, these are fairly inexpensive models. They will be released next year, but there is no information yet on when exactly. In addition, MSI is going to release a 12VO system unit, which will be equipped with an appropriate cable.

Recall that the ATX12VO connector is designed to replace the usual 24-pin power connector, which was introduced almost three decades ago. ATX12VO was introduced by Intel back in 2020, but so far it has not gained much popularity. Meanwhile, the new connector is more compact and allows the system to be much more economical, removing unnecessary lines with a voltage of 5 and 3.3 V.
