Whether Apple will have its own generative AI this year is unknown

Apple appears to be having trouble developing its own generative AI to compete with ChatGPT and other models. It is reported that the Cupertino giant is in negotiations with Google and OpenAI regarding the use of their models.

Apple is in talks with Google regarding integrating Gemini AI into the iPhone, and Apple has had similar talks with OpenAI regarding GPT. Bloomberg says that the parties have not yet decided on any basic nuances of the potential cooperation, and this will be announced no earlier than in the summer at WWDC 2024.

The source does not say that Apple was unable to develop its own AI, but the company’s negotiations with Google and OpenAI may indicate that the Cupertino team does not have a worthy analogue to the developments of these giants.
